Special Political and Decolonization Committee

Head Chair

Fellow delegates, admin staff members, press team members, and all of you participating in KISMUN,

Welcome to KISMUN 2020!

I’m Min Gyeom Kim. It is my privilege to serve you as the Head Chair of SPECPOL. It’s my first time to participate in MUN as a head chair, and I hope you will make a precious memory at KISMUN 2020.

Whenever I meet new delegates participating in an MUN, they always remind me of my first time at KISMUN 2018. I was extremely nervous whether what I was going to claim was reasonably correct, whether what I was going to say was grammatically correct, and even whether what I was going to do was professionally appropriate. I know that some of you are afraid of giving speeches on the podium; I know that some of you are concerned about making grammar mistakes; and I know that some of you will hesitate to make POIs.

Having said that, I’d like to tell you one thing that can relieve all of your worries. BE CONFIDENT. There is a saying, ‘Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings.’ You could make some mistakes, you could blur the point, and you could misunderstand what others are saying. Truth to be told, you can earn lots of things by simply making attempts. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Even if you make some mistakes, you can, and will, offset them by being confident. If you stay active in debates with confidence, you will soon be a speaker that everyone will look up to.

To sum up, I wish all of you to have a glorious time at KISMUN 2020. I will support all of you as much as I can. See you at the conference!

Best Regards,

Kim Min Gyeom,

Head Chair of SPECPOL

 Kim Min Gyeom

Deputy Chair

 Kim Hye Eum

Honorable chairs, delegates, and all student officers.

My name is Hye Eum, and I am highly delighted to be serving you as the deputy chair of SPECPOL in this year’s KISMUN.

To start off, I would like to greet all the delegates who are participating in this conference. It must have been a hard choice for some of you and I truly appreciate it. And for those who are still feeling nervous and awkward, it is okay to make mistakes and call out for help. There is no one who is perfect at everything. In fact, I also feel extremely nervous and unsettled just like you. It is my first time participating in a debate as a chair, especially in a committee which was newly created.

SPECPOL will be debating on three interesting topics. The transparency and accuracy of information exchange between countries for global cooperation, the question of weaponization of space, and the question of Northwest Passage and southern poles sovereignty. Even though they are slightly harder than the topics from other committees, I strongly believe that our delegates will be able to manage it.

Lastly, have fun delegates. I really hope all the delegates to have a great time debating and negotiating with each other, and somehow feel proud of yourself at the end of the conference.
