SECRETARIAT TEAM

Secretary General

My first MUN experience started out not good. First of all, I had no idea about the MUN procedures, secondly, writing the resolution seemed to be out of my ability and lastly, I was wearing a T-shirt among delegates who were wearing formal business attire. I had merely signed up to the conference because of my smart friend’s strong recommendation.

During the 1st day, I solemnly announced to my mom on the call that I will not be attending the conference the next day. However, I reluctantly went, feeling uneasy to give up the certification after all my sufferings the day before.

The 2 days conference, which felt like forever, was finally over, with me making few pois and an amendment. I can still vividly recall my thoughts during the closing ceremony, looking at the best delegate with an awe,‘Will there ever come a day when I will get the award?’. To reply, yes. I was awarded as a best delegate at KISMUN two years later.

After my first experience, I participated in every MUN conference there was. What attracted me was the ‘thrill’ that MUN presented me.The thrill of meeting strangers, raising the placard and approaching the podium, debating like an important person; the fact that I can learn so many things in the MUN delivered pure happiness to me. And I hope it also does to you in KISMUN 2020.

Through these sentiments I had experienced, I managed to highlight some facts that the MUN beginners have to be aware of.

First of all, we are all here to learn.

MUN is not only done in English but also consists of topics that are mostly hard to comprehend.  Therefore, it is natural to find this conference incredibly challenging. However, this conference is not about making the perfect perfect. It is about making the imperfect near perfect. KISMUN2020 wholeheartedly invites mistakes and the ability to learn from them.

Secondly, you are not alone.

Every one of the KISMUN2020 families is there to help you. Especially, your chairs will always be there to support you with their numerous experiences and the willingness to share their passion for MUN. Actively seek help from them. Also, the admin, press, pmc and the secretariat team are waiting to assist you during the 3 day conference.

Finally, you are already brave enough, for you appeared at the conference.

Then, why not become a little more braver, and say what you got to say as  representatives of the nations?

Now, KISMUN2020 warriors, are you ready to Ignite your passion?

The floor is now once again open! Are there any delegates willing to take the floor?

  Best regards,

Hyewon Jeon

  Secretary General of the KISMUN2020

 Jeon Hye Won

Deputy Secretary General

Honorable Delegates, Students Officers, and Guests,

Welcome to KISMUN 2020!  I am Gyungmo Gu, and it is my great honor to be serving you as the Deputy Secretary General. It has been four years since I attended my first conference, 2017 KIS Model United Nations, and Model United Nations thereafter has been my fondest memory.

The theme of this year's conference is “Ignite Your Passion”. I know how hard it is to raise a placard in front of you to make POIs and have a speech. However, all the chairs in your committee began their first step with overcoming that angst. Don’t let your fear of what could happen make nothing happen.

Before I conclude, there is one last point that I would like to say. Someone might argue that MUN is nothing more than a simulation of the United Nations, and it cannot change anything. Yes, we cannot deny that our resolutions do not have the actual legal force. However, I find the significance of MUN out in different viewpoints; we can make a change through the MUN, by pondering, debating and collaborating with others. This experience will lead you to a bigger world.

From the bottom of my heart, I hope this conference can inspire you and become your turning point. See you at the conference

Sincerely

Gyungmo Gu

Honorable delegates, student organizers, teachers, and guests

Welcome to KISMUN 2020. My name is Sung Gyou Choi, and I will be serving you as a deputy secretary general for three days of this conference.

We all know that it's always difficult and terrifying to make a speech. 2 years ago, when I was a delegate and had to do a speech in front of other delegates, my entire body was shivering until the end of the day and the whole conference was a nightmare to me.

There are two types of people, the ones who give up, and the ones who learn from the failure and step forward. I was also the one who tried to give up MUN. But, one thought popped into mind which was, 'Now or Never'. "If I give up MUN, will I have another chance in the future to ignite my passion? Will I have another chance in the future to debate and argue with global issues?" My answer to this is, No. If you choose not to do it now, you will never do it in the future.

In KISMUN 2020, I wish each one of you to learn how to express your thoughts and endorse yourselves into international problems. The skills you learn from this conference will support you until the end of your life.

Lastly, I wish all of you to ignite your passion. For the beginners, don't give up too early. You may or may not find the passion inside you, but it's fine. Take time, try it again, and then see how much you have improved from the last conference. That will be your strength and that makes you a person who learns from failure and steps forward.

See you at KISMUN 2020!

Sincerely,

Sunggyou Choi,

Deputy Secretary General of KISMUN 2020
